What do you think about storm chasing? It sounds weird if we call it as one of the sport activities but someone did do it and enjoyed it a lot. First of all, what is storm chaser really done? The objective is to track down and record the storm happen lively. One of the biggest objective for many chasers are witnessing a tornado. Besides that, they also do chase the thunderstorms, watching the lightning, seeing the cumulonimbus structure and some of them also chase the hurricanes.
Storm chasing is considered as one of the recreational endeavor. It focus toward the photographing the storm for personal reasons or scientific work. A few groups of people manage to sell the storm video and pictures. Besides that they also manage to schedule the ‘chase tour’ services. It’s a good income for those who have the interest in chasing the storm. And as you know, there is no degree or certification is needed to be a storm chaser. Everyone can be a storm chaser.
What do you need to bring along while chasing the storm? Most common device needed is basic photographic equipment. And for the experts, they normally used satellite based tracking systems and all live data will be feed to the vehicle mounted weather stations. As for starter, it is recommended to use camera or video camera to record the storm and from that, we can still improve our skills and knowledge on how to get the best images or data. This will help you to improve your skills and knowledge in the same time.
As we know, the storm activities are most active in May and June across the Great Plains of the United States. During that day, a couple hundred individuals are active. Besides US, some people also make their efforts in southeast Australia which the biggest success is from November until December. Some report also shows that they had chased the storm in other countries including Israel, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland and New Zealand. Many people prefer to track down the storm at Great Plains of North America especially United Kingdom.
